Chapter History
The Arlington Alumnae Chapter of ΣAI was organized June 2, 1967, chartered on November 14, and installed on May 18, 1968.
Installing officers were National Vice- President Gertrude Baker; Province President, Margaret Hudnall; and Province VP, Grace Morrow.
Chapter officers were: President, Isabel Henderson; VP, Rowena Taliaferro; Recording Secretary, Vivian White; Treasurer, Marcia Rober*; Chaplain, Mary Ellen Spore; and Editor, Claudine Postlethwaite. Other charter members were Cleo Keith, Charlene Dorsey, Vera Barnes, Joan Miller, Ruth Moore, Linda Morris, Shirley Sheets, Ann Simpson, and Priscilla White.

One of the original goals of this organization was to establish a college chapter at the University of Texas at Arlington, accomplished on April 27, 1974, with the installation of the Zeta Nu Chapter. Through the years the Alumnae and ZN chapters have been enriched by their close association. Some years the Alumnae and ZN chapters have hosted a progressive dinner for the MITs, ending with a pledge ceremony after the dessert course.
ΣAI supports American composers with the presentation of an American Musicale each spring, a joint effort of the Arlington Alumnae and Zeta Nu chapters. The chapter recognizes outstanding musicians with the naming of Friends of the Arts.

Community Service
1. Members have provided programs at local retirement and nursing homes.
2. Several open programs are offered to the public each year, e.g. organ recital held in a church.
3. In the 70's, the Alumnae chapter was instrumental in recommending that the Arlington Independent School District establish a strings program for grades 5 and up. This is a model program known throughout Texas.
4. The chapter has on occasion been invited to provide ushers at the Arlington Symphony, and Arlington Master Chorale Concerts.
